What is Glamping?
Glamping originated in Africa, decades ago, in upscale Safari Camps where guests lounged inside large canvas tents adorned with large beds, elegant beddings, Persian carpets, antique furniture, fluffy towels and pillow misters. They experienced stunning views in all directions and spent their afternoons at high tea, while on-site chefs prepared decadent meals. Guests enjoyed every imaginable luxury in a very wild setting. A form of this tradition still exists today.
Glamping with Storm Creek Outfitters
Storm Creek Outfitters LLC is offering the Glamping experience inside the Selway-Bitterroot and Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness’. Combined they encompass the largest wilderness in the lower 48. Rugged, pristine natural beauty, describe the view of several mountain ranges in Idaho and Montana visible from a ridge above our upper Base Camp.
The views along the upper Selway River are equally spectacular with a variety of pools, cliffs and great side canyons. Wildlife is abundant, with elk, deer, moose big horn sheep, mountain goats and many smaller birds and animals. This is a wilderness area and you may be lucky enough to hear the cries of wolves at night.
Depending upon the season you will be staying at one of our two Base Camps. Our upper Base Camp is near the top of the mountain at 8000 ft. elevation with spectacular views. The lower Base Camp at 4000 ft. Both are nestled in among trees with a pure mountain creek or spring nearby our well equipped kitchen / dining tents. Rustic elegance describes the character of your sleeping accommodations which are well appointed cabin tents with woodstoves for heat. Comfortable beds, queen or single, with heavy quilts will keep you toasty warm even if you let the fire go out during the early morning hours.
You will awake to the aroma of rich coffee and fresh baked bread. After a hearty breakfast the day is yours. Options include guided horseback riding, hiking, and fishing or photography tours. Of course there is always the option of relaxing in camp and reading a good book. You will be served a delicious lunch either on the trail or in camp. “Social Hour” is around 6:00 pm with fantastic hors d’oeuvres and something to wash the trail dust down.
A sumptuous gourmet meal will be served around 7:00 pm. The chef will prepare a special dessert each day. After dinner, during the long days of summer you will still have enough time to go for an evening stroll or walk to the lookout from the upper camp and watch the sun set behind the mountains far across the Selway River Valley…….Very Romantic.
